Protect Yourself Against Meningococcal B

Meningococcal B (MenB) disease is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can cause meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning), and can become life-threatening within hours.

Students are at increased risk because they often live, study and socialise in close contact with large numbers of people, particularly in university halls and shared accommodation.

Who is eligible? You may be eligible for a FREE NHS MenB vaccination if you are:

  • Under 25 and starting university for the first time as an undergraduate in the 2026–27 academic year
  • Under 25 and starting residential further education for the first time in the 2026–27 academic year (where eligible under the NHS programme)
  • An international student, or a student from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, who meets the programme criteria for first-time university entry

Our NHS MenB Vaccination Service includes:

  • FREE NHS MenB vaccination for eligible students
  • Easy online booking
  • Walk-in appointments at participating pharmacies
  • University and college pop-up vaccination clinics

Your vaccination appointment includes:

  • Eligibility assessment
  • Clinical consultation
  • Safe administration of the MenB vaccine

Protect yourself before you start college or university.
