Skin Biopsies

Purpose:

To diagnose skin conditions such as skin cancer, infections, or inflammatory skin diseases.

Procedure:

The dermatologist removes a small sample of skin (using a scalpel or punch) for laboratory analysis. There are different types of biopsies:

Types of Biopsies

Shave biopsy:

Removes a thin layer of skin.

Punch biopsy:

Takes a deeper sample, including the underlying tissue.

Excisional biopsy:

Involves removing an entire lesion or growth.

Cryotherapy

Purpose:

To treat precancerous lesions, warts, and other benign skin conditions.

Procedure:

Liquid nitrogen is applied to the affected area to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue.

Mole Removal (Excision)

Purpose:

To remove suspicious moles or skin cancers (like melanoma).

Procedure:

Dermabrasion
