Knowing your blood group is essential for various medical reasons, including blood transfusions, pregnancy care, and emergency situations. Your blood type is determined by the ABO and Rh systems, with the ABO system categorizing blood into four groups: A, B, AB, and O. The Rh factor indicates whether your blood is Rh-positive or Rh-negative, completing your blood type (e.g., A+, B-, O+). Book your blood group test today and ensure you have the information you need to stay healthy.

Why Knowing Your Blood Group Is Essential for Your Health?

There are 4 main blood groups (types of blood) – A, B, AB and O. Your blood group is determined by the genes you inherit from your parents. Each group can be either RhD positive or RhD negative, which means in total there are 8 blood groups.
A blood group test, also known as a blood type test, is a medical procedure used to determine an individual’s blood group based on the ABO blood group system and the Rh factor. There are four main blood groups in the ABO system:
Type A: Has A antigens on the surface of red blood cells and anti-B antibodies in the plasma.
Type B: Has B antigens on the surface of red blood cells and anti-A antibodies in the plasma.
Type AB: Has both A and B antigens on the surface of red blood cells and no anti-A or anti-B antibodies in the plasma. This is the universal plasma donor type.
Type O: Has no A or B antigens on the surface of red blood cells but has both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in the plasma. This is the universal red blood cell donor type.

In addition to the ABO system, the Rh factor (positive or negative) is also determined:
Rh-positive (Rh+): If the Rh antigen is present on the surface of red blood cells.
Rh-negative (Rh-): If the Rh antigen is absent.
Purpose of the Test:
Blood Transfusions: To ensure compatibility and prevent an immune reaction.
Pregnancy: To check for Rh incompatibility between a mother and fetus (important for preventing Rh disease).
Medical Identification: For use in case of emergencies where a blood transfusion might be required.

This simple test is routinely done in medical settings to determine compatibility before transfusions or organ donations.
